Our team completed a chimney repair on a home in Carrollton. The damage was caught while it could still be repaired, so the failed masonry was cleaned back and rebuilt in place instead of taking the chimney down.
Why Small Chimney Damage Grows
Cracks and open mortar joints rarely stay small. Outside on the stack they let water into the masonry, which washes out more mortar and breaks the faces off the brick. Inside the firebox they let heat reach places it was never meant to, and every fire works the gap a little wider.
In North Texas, hail and the swing between wet and dry weather speed that up, which is why the same crack that is a simple repair this year can turn into a rebuild a few years later.
How the Repair Was Done
The damaged mortar and brick were cleaned back to sound material. The open joints and cracks were then filled with fresh mortar worked into the existing masonry, and the repaired areas were finished to match the surrounding work so the chimney sheds water and holds heat the way it was built to.
