About us

One Company Handles the Full Range - Cleaning, Inspection, Repair, and Emergency Services

DFW homeowners have relied on The Chimney Inspection & Sweep since 1991 for every part of chimney and fireplace care.

The chimney system  –  the complete assembly including the firebox, smoke chamber, flue, liner, crown, and cap that moves combustion gases safely out of the home  –  requires different expertise at different points in its life. Annual cleaning is different from a Tier 2 inspection, which is a camera-assisted flue scan required for real estate transactions. Emergency spalling brick repair is different from a scheduled crown patch. We have the crews and the equipment for all of it. One call covers the full picture.

Our Services

Full-Service Chimney and Fireplace Care, Available Across DFW Today

From routine sweeps to same-day emergency calls, here is what we cover.

Our Core Services

Chimney Cleaning & Sweeping

Regular cleaning removes soot, debris, and early-stage creosote  –  a combustion byproduct that builds up on flue walls and becomes a fire hazard in concentrated form  –  that accumulates with every wood fire. DFW’s heating season runs short. Most homeowners burn from November through February. That is enough use to warrant a cleaning before the next season starts.

Chimney Inspections  –  Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3

An inspection and a cleaning are not the same service. Cleaning removes what is there. An inspection evaluates whether the system is structurally sound.

Tier 1 covers all accessible components  –  firebox walls, damper, smoke shelf, crown, and cap  –  with a visual check and a written summary.

Tier 2 adds video flue scanning. Camera equipment moves through the full liner interior. This is the level required when a home is being sold or purchased. In DFW’s active real estate market  –  particularly in Plano, Frisco, McKinney, and Allen  –  we run Tier 2 inspections year-round for buyers, sellers, and the realtors coordinating between them.

Tier 3 involves partial demolition to access damage concealed behind walls or inside a chase structure. It is not common, but it is necessary after a chimney fire or a major weather event when the damage is real and the camera cannot reach it.

Chimney Repair Services

DFW’s climate is hard on masonry. Spring storms bring hail and heavy rain. Summer heat tops 100°F for weeks. Winter ice events  –  not frequent, but real  –  freeze water inside mortar joints and crown cracks, widening them. The repair list reflects all of it.

  • Crown repair and custom crown installation  –  surface sealing for minor cracks; full rebuild when the geometry is wrong
  • Mortar repair and repointing  –  removing deteriorated joint material and replacing it with mortar matched to the original hardness
  • Chimney flashing repair  –  addressing the two-piece metal seal at the roof-chimney junction, a top leak source after DFW hail seasons
  • Spalling brick repair  –  selective replacement of brick faces separated by DFW’s wet-dry cycling
  • Chimney liner installation  –  new stainless or cast-in-place liner when the original clay tile has failed
  • Efflorescence removal  –  cleaning the white salt deposits that signal ongoing water movement through the masonry
  • Chimney waterproofing and sealing  –  vapor-permeable treatment applied after structural repairs are complete
  • Smoke chamber repair and parging
  • Chimney removal  –  full or partial teardown for unused structures that have crossed into maintenance liability territory

Chimney Components - Caps, Dampers, and Chase Covers

Small components cause large problems when they fail. A missing chimney cap  –  the metal hood mounted over the flue opening that blocks rain, sparks, and animals  –  leaves the flue exposed through DFW’s spring nesting season and storm season simultaneously.

We replace and install chimney caps, top-sealing dampers, and stainless steel chase covers for prefab chimney systems. Same-day sizing and installation are available when the component needs to come off the roof before the next rain.

Gas Fireplace Services

Most DFW homes built after 2000 have gas fireplaces, not wood-burning masonry systems. Gas feels simpler. It is not maintenance-free. Thermocouple failure  –  the component that keeps the gas valve open when the pilot is lit  –  is the most common reason a gas fireplace stops responding at the start of the heating season. We diagnose the specific failed component and repair it in a single visit.

Gas fireplace inspections are a separate service from masonry chimney inspections. The inspection points  –  burner condition, gas valve operation, venting adequacy, glass gasket seal  –  do not overlap with what a standard chimney inspection covers.

We also handle gas log installation for homeowners converting wood-burning fireplaces to gas, and smart home fireplace integration for automation-ready homes.

Fireplace Services - Cleaning, Odor, and Installation

A fireplace odor in July  –  when the fireplace has not been used since February  –  is one of the most common calls we get. Sealed DFW homes running air conditioning create negative air pressure. That pressure pulls air from the flue into the living room, and whatever is sitting in the flue comes with it.

We handle fireplace cleaning, complete fireplace cleaning (the full system, not just the firebox surface), fireplace odor removal, and chronic odor remediation for persistent cases. We also handle fireplace installation  –  masonry, prefab, and gas insert  –  with permit coordination built into the project sequence.

Emergency Services - 24/7 Response

Some chimney calls cannot wait for a scheduled appointment.

A live animal in the flue at 11 p.m. is not a Tuesday-morning problem. An active chimney leak during a spring storm needs same-day containment, not a diagnostic appointment next week. A furnace flue blocked by a bird nest when temperatures drop is a carbon monoxide risk that resolves the moment the flue is cleared.

We operate 24/7. Twelve crews across the DFW Metroplex means we can respond when the calendar is full elsewhere.

Emergency services include:

Emergency animal removal  –  raccoons, squirrels, and other wildlife

Emergency chimney leak repair

Emergency storm damage repair  –  cap, crown, and flashing triage after hail or high-wind events

Emergency furnace flue cleaning

Emergency spalling brick repair

Fireplace Remodeling and Restoration

A dated fireplace surround is one of the first things buyers and guests notice. Stone veneer remodeling, fireplace refacing, and cosmetic stone veneer applications update the visual character of the fireplace without altering the firebox structure. Full chimney exterior restoration  –  repointing, brick repair, crown work, and waterproofing in a single coordinated project  –  addresses multi-issue deterioration without staging four separate service calls.

Annual Maintenance Plans

Reactive scheduling during peak fall demand means waiting. An annual maintenance plan  –  a scheduled service agreement covering recurring inspection and cleaning  –  gives members priority scheduling before the general booking queue opens. That is the difference between a confirmed late-September appointment and a maybe in mid-November.
